It's Flu Season Again (Fall of 2023)

The Credit Valley Family Health Team recommends annual Flu Vaccinations and has Flu clinics this fall. 

If you already received the flu vaccine this year and you are 65 and over please let us know by clicking here.

Note if you also need a COVID vaccine, we can give one to you along with your flu shot. Note we currently have the new XBB.1.5 vaccine (Moderna / Pfizer). There will be an opportunity during the online booking process for you to enter free text. If you also need a COVID shot, and if you have a brand preference for your COVID vaccine (Moderna v.s. Pfizer), please indicate it in the free text. We cannot guarantee your brand selection but will try to accommodate it.

After your online registration you will be receiving the Flu consent form via email please read it prior to your arrival at the clinic. During your visit:

• You will be screened by a healthcare professional on site
• You will need to read the Influenza consent before receiving the vaccine
• You will be asked to wait 15 min after the injection.
• At the beginning of the flu season we will be giving high risk patients priority.

Currently, the primary high risk population is defined as follows:

• All pregnant women
• Residents and staff of congregate living settings (e.g. chronic care facilities, retirement homes)
• People ≥ 65 years of age
• All children 6 months to 4 years of age
• Indigenous people and their household members
• Adults or children 6 months of age and over with the following underlying health conditions:
  • Cardiac or pulmonary disorders
  • Diabetes mellitus or other metabolic disease
  • Cancer
  • Conditions or medication which compromise the immune system (due to underlying disease, therapy or both)
  • Renal disease
  • Anemia or hemoglobinopathy
  • Neurologic or neurodevelopmental conditions
  • Morbid obesity (body mass index of ≥ 40)
  • Children and adolescents (6 months to 18 years) undergoing treatment with acetylsalicylic acid for long periods 

• Individuals capable of transmitting influenza to those listed in the high-risk group above and/or to infants under 6 months of age:
• Health care workers and other care providers in facilities and community settings
• Household contacts (adults and children) of individuals at high risk of influenza related complications
• Persons who provide care to children < 4 years of age
• Members of a household expecting a newborn during the influenza season
• Those who provide services within a closed or relatively closed setting to persons at high risk of influenza related complications (e.g. crew on a ship)
• People who provide essential community services
• Poultry industry workers

In Ontario Flu Vaccine is publicly funded for all eligible persons over 6 months of age.
