Smoking Cessation Program

Are you ready to quit smoking? The Smoking Cessation Program provides support to all patients who smoke, have recently quit smoking or who wish to assist someone to quit smoking. The program meets the needs of patients at all stages, whether you're ready to quit smoking or wish to decrease your dependence. With the help of our trained nurses, nurse practioners and pharmacist, you can make your health your priority.

What Services Are Provided Within The Smoking Cessation Program?

Individual Counselling

Patients will meet one on one with a trained smoking cessation counsellor for counselling, to assess their smoking, discuss risks and to develop a plan at their own pace. Patients will be linked to community supports and receive up to date literature and resources. As a patient enrolled in our smoking cessation, you will also receive free Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT), including  patches, gums, inhalers and lozenges through the STOP program. A nurse or nurse practioner will provide ongoing support in person, by phone or internet to provide advice on any needed adjustments to your quit plan and to discuss successful strategies until your goals are met.

How to Join

Ready to quit?
If you are interested in quitting smoking and want to join the program, please inform your physician or call the front desk to book an appointment. You can always book on your own iniative if you decide to start at a later date, as well as re-enroll in the program any time if you happen to relapse.

What to expect

The initial visit
Lasting at least 60 minutes, we will review your current smoking habits and situation, and form a 'quit plan'. We may suggest medications to help you with your quit plan.  You may choose to enrol in the STOP program.

About the STOP program

The Smoking Treatment for Ontario Patients (STOP) us an Ontario-wide program designed to help people reduce or quit smoking. A key element of the program is to increase access to Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT). As apart of the program, you may receive 6 months of nicotine patches, gums, inhalers or lozenges.
